WRIGHT PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE CASE STUDY

PROJECT: A.F.I.T. Engineering & Research Lab

Background

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States Air Force determined that they needed an environmentally controlled enclosure for an Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) project. The building was to include approximately 5,000 square feet of Class 10,000 cleanrooms, as well as additional laboratory space and classrooms. Because of CES’s track record for success in the design, construction, and certification of cleanrooms and metrology labs, NASA and the U.S. Air Force trusted their research lab construction project to us.

Project Challenge

Typically, CES provides our clients with design blueprints, in addition to completing the space’s construction and certification. But this case was quite different. The project, managed by the Army Corp. of Engineers, was completely designed before we began our work, and all the materials we’d be working with were already specified. We also worked hand-in-hand with USA Companies, the general contractor, and coordinated the services of all other necessary trades connected with the cleanrooms.

Results

Because of the complexity and specialized nature of cleanroom construction, CES led the charge on successfully completing this enclosure for the AFIT project. Thanks to our rigorous standards and team of experts, we achieved a cleanliness level of ISO 7 (Class 10,000) throughout all 5,000 square feet of cleanroom space, as well as in additional laboratories and classrooms. Our services allowed NASA and the U.S. Air Force to complete their research lab construction project in the timeline allotted and start on the next generation of research.
